Maintaining your ICEY TEK

Maintaining your ICEY TEK

An ICEY TEK is a professional-grade asset, designed to handle the rigours of the deck and the grit of the campsite. While the non-porous, food-grade internal skin is engineered to resist odours and staining, proper maintenance ensures your cooler stays in peak condition for years.

1. The post-trip strip

As soon as you're back, empty the cooler completely. If you've been storing fish, use the large-diameter bungs to drain any blood or meltwater immediately.

  • Flush it out: Use a high-pressure hose to remove loose scales, sand, or debris from the internal corners and the lid seal.

  • The seal check: Ensure the gasket area is clear of grit to maintain that critical airtight barrier.

2. Sanitise without compromise

ICEY TEK uses a high-quality, non-porous lining that doesn't hold smells the way cheap plastic coolers do. Hygiene is still important though, especially when switching between fresh catch and food or drinks.

  • The solution: Use warm, soapy water and a soft brush. For a deeper clean after a heavy fishing trip, a weak bleach solution will do the job.

  • Avoid abrasives: Do not use steel wool or harsh scouring pads — these can scratch the smooth internal skin.

3. The stink-free storage secret

The biggest mistake people make is cleaning their cooler and immediately slamming the lid shut for storage.

  • Dry it out: Wipe the interior down with a clean towel and let it air-dry completely before storing.

  • Storage tip: Never store your ICEY TEK with the lid fully latched. Prop the lid slightly open or leave the bungs out to allow air circulation.

4. Component care

ICEY TEK components are built to last, but a quick check after hard use keeps everything running smoothly.

  • The hinges: A quick rinse with fresh water after a salt-heavy trip keeps them operating freely.

  • The bungs: Periodically check the O-rings on your bungs. A light smear of silicone grease will keep them supple and ensure a leak-proof seal. Replacement bungs are available if you need them.

  • The latches: Check that your latches are seating cleanly after trips where the cooler has been bouncing around in a tray or on a deck. A latch that isn't closing fully will compromise your gasket seal and your ice life.
